Re: When Not to Trade ???? or Avoid Loser

Unread post by immy »

fxsam wrote:Hi Immy,

I have been using AIMS since 9 months. I understand rules & method about trading with AIMS system but i am still developing skill to avoid losers or have less losing trades. I have been trading 15 mins & 30mins time frames. One of the common problem i am facing is, i start my week really well and then in last three days of Market due to losing trades my most of the profit wipe out. In my exit strategy, i am using hard TP of 50pips which i change if trend doesn't reach that target. I think understanding when to take trades using AIMS is easy but when to avoid is hard part to understand. This is affecting my trading performance. Can you please help me with this as others might have same issue as me ? Following are my losing trades which were taken during week 19-23 Nov 2012. Most of these trades reached to SL and few of them i closed manually as trend turned against them.

Sam
Hi Sam

I am glad to see this post. The very purpose of this forum is to entertain such posts. However, it would have been much better had you started your own journal 9 months ago as I see some basic mistakes in your entries. Those could have been avoided months ago. But its never too late. Let me go one by one.

It'll take some time, so I'll keep posting and updating, in case you catch me half way through. :-B

Trade 1. EUR/USD 19 Nov M15
24-11-2012 15-15-13.png
Trade 2. USDCHF Date Unknown (I guess its 20 Nov) M15
Clearly first trade is inside AIMS Box, Not allowed. Second trade, a. AIMS levels to the left were too close ,price was going sideways so we need to make sure we trade near the top/bottom of range. You took the trade, meaning you tried your luck, but it did not move. Exit was a bit too early and premature but still since you may have realized there was not trend, it was good for you. But we must stick to our exit rules. It was clearly a choppy day. These things will happen and are very hard to avoid. You just have to take a trade or two and if it does not work leave it alone, tomorrow is another day.

Trade 3. GBP/USD M15 22 Nov.
The trade taken as an attempt to get into a 5th of the previous 3. Price had moved quite nicely during 21'st of nov. and earlier part of 20th of Nov. The Setup was correct. nothing wrong with it. Its one of those 50% of trades that we have to live with.

Trade 4. AUD/USD M15 23 Nov

Trade 5. USD/JPY M15 20 Nov

Trade 6. EUR/JPY 23 Nov

Hi Sam

Glad that you've found my reply helpful. ;)

It would be best to start your journal in the Journals section. A journal is a great tool to monitor your performance. It is not possible to arrive at your "Destiny" without first deciding what is your destiny? And then we break down the journey to that destiny into Yearly, Monthly, Weekly and Daily Goals. We then do the most important thing. We write those goals down. In order to know that we are on track and achieving our required goals and objectives we must have a way to track our performance. That's where a Journal comes in handy. A journal helps you keep on track if you lose sight of your goals you can steer right back on to the road. Its like a plane, you've give co-ordinates to your plan autopilot system but the weather system may steer the plane away, off course slightly. As soon as you realize this discrepancy you need to adjust the course and then let the auto pliot take over. If you were to miss doing those slight adjustments you may arrive at an entirely different country :)) or perhaps run out of fuel and land in the middle of a desert or an ocean. So A Journal is our way to "Monitor our Performance" and "keep us on track"

The second thing about journals is accountability. You hold yourself accountable to yourself. With a public journal its even more powerful. You hold yourself accountable to other people in the same boat or travelling the same path. This then becomes doubly powerful. Give it a try, you'll never stop.

cheers

Can i start my journal under this section as it will be higher time frames or you want me to start under Journal section ?

Hi Sam,

I know Immy is busy recently, so let me answer. i almost sure it is better to start your trade journal in Journal section. You can mention in the first post your trading plan and that you are going to trade higher time frames.

Hope that helps,

Julius

Today's trades on higher time frames... Adem made a 1:7 trade on Gold but guess what he exited where I've shown the picture above... and as we now know it fell massively afterwards as it cleared the 2012 lows. Officially in a big time down trend... He WCS have 1:20 meaning 20% account growth from 1 h1 trade. They guy is top notch part time trader... TradeTheBest

I will soon discuss a strategy on how to take trades on m5 and let them run all day using h1 as a guide.

Adem could have added a further 7% on top of his 7% he got from this gold trade. What a lovely classic setup in the direction of Dailies... amazing...

Herbert: oh yes! thank you..... haha

The Daily chart below shows how juicy it was to have been looking for shorts only on H1 time frame. Alas! I should have noticed and posted ahead of time!

These M5/M15 trades Coverted into H1 are looking Extremely Good! Check how observing PC kept us in these trades today to further add another 100 pip each to the campaign.
