Re: Step by Step Guide for V5 Installation
Hi Immy,
I believe that I read elsewhere in this forum that you recommend installing MT4 on the C: drive, why is it that you recommend this over the usual Program Files directory?
Many thanks for this nicely detailed installation guide.

Program Files directory for windows system is a sacred den. Normally you dont want to mess with this folder and the contents of it unless you know aht you're doing. For that reason windows have added UAC (User Account Conctrol) features to prevent other programs from making unwanted changes. e.g. deleting one little file may cause the whole system to crash/halt. We regularly end up going under the bonnet of MT4 and keep making changes. Some of the changes may even effect/affect windows registry files. e.g. Windows is busy updating registry while you are messing with adding in and deleting indicators from your mt4, it might miss a few bits nad your entrie system may crash. So if you keep your mt4, out of the den, in the open space i.e. C drive UAC does not keep an eye on your activities. Meaning if you add or omit fiels or change structure of hte MT4 directories win security does not mind it. Vista users in specific have problems with mt4 when running on UAC turned on. MT4 does not update it self because UAC blocks this feature in vista. they have improved UAC in win 7 and hopefully will be better in win8. For MAC users I have no idea what to say!
cheers

Re: Step by Step Guide for V5 Installation
Good Morning Immy,
Many thanks to you and the team for V5, have it all ready for next week and looking forward to it !
I hope and trust that all was well during your trip.
I have got myself confused on the programme timings of your forthcoming webinars (which I value greatly - I always learn things), can you remind me when the next one is and if there is a location on the site where I can find forthcoming dates so I can make sure I keep them free in my schedule ?
Many thanks and hope you are having a great WE
Yours
Nigel

Thank you, you finally answered my lack of understanding regarding all of the UAC issue's. I have been reading about these issues from traders using all kinds of different trading software and the permission problems that have hobbled them.
I have not as of yet run into these issues. Because I use a Mac I have just stuck with Windows XP Pro and have never had to deal with these UAC problems. I think I'll purchased another copy of Windows XP and stick with that until MT4 or MT5 no longer run on the XP OS.
If/when I have to move up to the latest Win OS I will definitely heed your advice and this great to know and I will pass on to other traders.
Great solution!

Hi Immy,
What are the ramifications (if there are any) of trading using an old build versus latest build of MT4
Thanks,

Vista had trouble with MT4, for some reason it won't allow MT4 to update itself with the UAC turned on. Win7 has no issue. Some people may experience mt4 crash other's is ok. If anyone experience 'Critical Error' after installing the program they should delete the indicators and then update their mt4 to latest build and re-install.
But if it works for you even on an earlier build then just carry on!
