Pre Session Questions: Have you done your pre-session routine and read the rules? I visualised them through them in my head.
A)Is there any red news to be aware of?
Yes Red USD News at 0830
B) Have you identified and plotted the relevant range levels from H1 down? Yes
TRADE / SESSION SUMMARY:
Sit down to trade with an open mind this morning about what may or may not present in the session. Start of the session is weak. I am not drawn in. Session goes into range. I know what I need to see happen for me to be interested. I spend my time justifying filtering trades, this reminds me where my edge exists and what I need to do.
Did you trade the plan? Yes
Did the charts look and feel clear to you during this session?
Yes, they were choppy. We eventually had a breakout, above m5 range, it was the 2nd pb in that move but the first outside the identified range high. I took it. It rented. Pullback was not the cleanest. It could have absolutely flew, it could have broke even, or it could have rented. Those are the outcomes. I accept that before entering.
Questions arising from this session? No
How did you feel?
Fine.
POSITIVE THOUGHTS ETC
Today was a test of patience.
I learned I don't need to over focus on H1. I can do my analysis simply from M5, with the odd check of H1.

Momentum Settings - my Favourite
I tried the 10/20 ... but I think the 10/20 Moving Averages are too laggy.
the 5/10 works for me. I like momentum... I like those 2-3 candle trend candle breakout adn then that first or 2nd pullback... Ideally the first pullback is what i'm looking for .... I am definitely not comfortable trading the 2nd or 3rd without already having traded and profited from the 1st and if there is 4th, god help ya!!!
So, I thought that i will use 10/20 on H1 FX but even on that, I ended up taking some bad setups with impulsive move on both sides... Did not help.
Now I am in love with my setup.... It works for me big time.
Actually I've never been this comfortable for the last 13 years.
cheers Have a great long weekend... the weather is lovely

Pre Session Questions: Have you done your pre-session routine and read the rules?
I visualised them through them in my head.
A)Is there any red news to be aware of?
No
B) Have you identified and plotted the relevant range levels from H1 down?
Yes but I am very much trying to focus on m5, and the impulse.
TRADE / SESSION SUMMARY:
Feel like I have not traded for a while. I am going to now look at dax, eu and gu on m1. I have gone with momentum settings… so a bit of change. Let’s see how we roll
Did you trade the plan? Yes
Did the charts look and feel clear to you during this session? Yes
Questions arising from this session? No, just good things in discord
How did you feel?
I had a freeze on mt4 but luckily I had pre-drawn levels and saved the template. I managed to refresh mt4 just before a signal. I took the signal. It was DS1, it rented.
I then, saw the reversal from my rent, that was a nice impulse move. I didn’t take the signal as I was really conscious ‘not to trade inside the m5 range.’ HOWEVER…. This is the turning point…. this I think is what momentum trading is about. I feel like this is what I was doing when I ‘went rogue’ during my first t100, and I was successful with this approach….
What happened was, m5 range was a fake out, it never worked. Seller sold harder, creating an IMPULSE move. (this is what we want) then there was a pullback. SO… what is the concept… exactly that. Impulse move and pullback. That is happening NOW.
I made comment in discord yesterday about EMAs relative to price. Yes there is a correlation, but, is it the be all and end all? Surely price has to take priority. So… I am going to keep the 5/10 momentum ema’s. Remove the 50… and trade off market cycle breakouts and impulse moves and focus more on what is happening NOW.
I expect to see my trade rate increase quick quickly, with more trades taken. But, I will trust the probabilities of the concept and go with it. When I traded like this previously, I felt a bit more care free and less restricted. I know, if I really want; I can wait out a whole session for certain levels to break and ema’s to line up beautifully etc but, I will also miss loads of valid ‘concept trades’ on a micro level. If it is a probabilities game, let’s just take the setups and focus on the current momentum.
I applied this to my second trade, I saw it form, I took it. It was a ds1.
POSITIVE THOUGHTS ETC
Another good learning session!!!
Feel like it is ok to let myself go a bit and bring my personality back into my trading.
Once I let the first short signal go having filtered it been concerned of trading back into the m5 range, I didn't get fomo and take the next setup which was the 2nd pb. Although valid. I waited for a market cycle reset and for the next impulse move. I did not force that, I was objective.
I have realised, I can’t focus on 3 m1 pairs, nor do I need to actually. I barely looked at eu/gu because I was tuning into dax. So, I will forget it. 1 market at once again, but, momentum and micro phase trading will be my way now. DS Running Total: 8/10

Re: Tom's T20 Journal
I have been lurking in the shadows for a week or so. I actually haven't traded many sessions at all; and when I did trade it was like 0.2R.
I have tried different templates, gator, box, bannana box, combination of everything. But, I cannot cope with it all. However, it helped me, adding those boxes and lines and fresh ao cross and all that to realise; side by side to a naked chart that I don't think I need or want much on my chart.
I had it in my head that momentum settings was basically scalping, in and out quick time. Playing the momentum candles and getting out on a pause etc etc. No, this is not what trading the momentum settings is.... far from it. When I started to do that, I lost all concept of market cycle.
When I look at more than one M1 market, or when I try H1/M5 as well, I DO NOT PAY ATTENTION, TO ANYTHING. I've been there now, experienced it, learned from it. Enough said.
SO, I have come back to this... I can only trade one chart on m1, and I am more comfortable when I have some HTF structure and analysis superimposed onto it for guidance....... Sometimes, you have to experience this to understand the advice that has been given
I have, as of today made a conscious decision to strip everything back. I am going with the momentum EMAs only. which are new to me still, but I want to focus on price and cycle. I know how to count a pullback and a 2 legged on. I know what a seed is. I can see them pretty well naked.
I have also now realised after a couple of sessions of just wackiness that momentum does not mean TAKE EVERYTHING THAT MOVES. Doing that, on 3/4 charts, at the same time; it's just a recipe for DISASTER. However, it did not take me long to realise this thankfully lol.
My focus is going to be on price, market cycle and context, not indicators. I have to have to have to learn market cycle better. That is what keeps me calm, grounded and justified.

I want to start to get over the feeling of choking trades and fear of just getting in and to BE asap. I took a trade 0.25% risk and just played it out. Actually, felt very calm. The monetary gain probably very similar on this occasion to just taking the full 3r within 3 minutes lol.
Entry was DS1. Exit was intentional DS0. So not gna beat up over it.
H1 was on support with space to go up.

You CHANGED
It took me years to LEARN to trade MY SIGNALS....
Why do I need to trade MY SIGNALs?
Because I KNOW as a result of my testing that the Pattern I trade Gives me an EDGE.
I have an algorithm that points out that pattern on the chart for me. I know that its not perfect, so I use my personal judgement to further validate the signals.
This keeps me GROUNDED

The Trade you took was incorrect, there was violation of the CLIMACTIC Rule. IF you change my system, you are on your own. Why? because then you're doing your own thing I can't guide you. Hope this makes sense.tombacon89 wrote: 12 May 2022, 09:59 I am going with the momentum EMAs only. which are new to me still, but I want to focus on price and cycle. Immy: The EMA's are NOT new to you. The momentum EMA settings have been our standard from the beginning. I switched to 10/20 for the H1 chart for a month or so.

ps: don't throw my baby away

pps: I have done testing on DAXm1 and the most profitable combination is this. wiht 1:3 profit targets. I've tried moving averages trailing, box trailing, closing half, closing 3rd, all sorts. It does not work. THE EDGE is 1:3 no closing half and moving SL to BE at 1 or 1.5R. (even taking profits at 1:1 will bring your profitability down @emma)
